Change & Risk (cont)
Change and risk MUST be managed within the context of the enterprise, its strategy, activities and the environment within which it operates.
This approach enables the enterprise to be managed and developed properly aligned to its Vision; as opposed to being allowed to evolve 'nomadically' over time.
This also enables risk appetite to be defined in context with the enterprise needs and status as well as shareholder ambitions; thereby facilitating appropriate decisions for its future sustainability.
After all; forewarned is forearmed. even though we cannot be certain about 'what change' &/or 'what impact' we can have in place the appropriate assumptions and 'feelers' to be able to 'maintain' the future aligned to our strategic plan.
We would therefore be armed to cope with informed decision making information appropriate to correctly position the enterprise for change as well as be able to take the opportunities often afforded by change.
Furthermore, this can often be achieved in times of stability; which is the best time to facilitate and plan for change.
However, change does represent challenge and uncertainty as well as risk and the further away from influencing change one is, ie the more it is being imposed, then the more 'fear' is created as a consequence. Leadership is therefore a vital factor in managing the process of change by inspiring confidence in individuals and teams to follow the leader in embracing the challenge and pro-actively engage with the required change.
ISDS approach to these management issues is to use contemporary processes and techniques which challenge status quo and bring a new approach to business modeling and management which simplifies organisational and resource alignment with strategic objectives and key value drivers.
This approach puts change and risk in their proper cotext, directly related to the enterprise which stimulates pro-active change to drive efficiency and effectiveness throughout the organisation, whilst maintaining the flexibility for future change. An approach that also reduces the uncertainty and fear, thereby reducing stress!
Leadership skills are also brought into the mix to ensure the whole enterprise is mobilised and aligned with the change initiatives. By aligning these programmes with corporate objectives and Vision, risk is identified and quantified and therefore more effectively managed.
As an outsourced independant service, advice and support will always be dispassionate and objective. The service also provides the business leader with the opportunity to debate sensitive change prior to disclosure to a wider, possibly more sensitised, audience. Thus being better prepared to 'sell' the change and align resource via freely given consensus with the enterprise objectives.
